Tawanda Builds a Family Business for Sustainability

When Tawanda Mukoyi graduated in 2019, he returned to Zimbabwe with hope, determination, and the responsibility of supporting his family and continuing his ministry. Like many who return home after studying, he faced a challenging economic environment. Establishing a business in Zimbabwe is not easy, yet for Tawanda it became an achievable mission. He had gained practical entrepreneurial skills during his studies that prepared him to be resourceful and resilient.

During his time at African Christian College, Tawanda worked in several departments to pay for his education. He spent most of his time with the Communications Team, where his love for art and computers naturally blended. Reflecting on this period, he shared, “I have always loved computers and art, so learning these skills felt natural to me.” The tools and applications he encountered during this time became the foundation for the career he would later build.

Pitching a business idea to family members is not easy, but with the communication and systems thinking skills I gained at African Christian College, I was able to explain my vision clearly.

Once back home, Tawanda began searching for work that aligned with his passion for design and creativity while also supporting his ministry as a preacher. He recalls, “I was not looking for just any job. I wanted something that would help me grow in the direction I believed God was calling me.” He soon found the opportunity he needed, and with dedication he quickly learned the craft and gained valuable experience.

With a long standing desire to start his own branding business, Tawanda eventually shared his vision with his family. He proposed that they create a family printing and design business. “Pitching a business idea to family members is not easy, but with the communication and systems thinking skills I gained at African Christian College, I was able to explain my vision clearly,” he explained. His family believed in the idea, and together they raised funds to purchase the equipment needed to begin.

This collaboration led to the birth of Sky Blue Branding. What started as a small initiative soon grew into a stable source of income for the family. Tawanda often reflects on this growth with gratitude: “I am thankful for the exposure and business management knowledge I received at African Christian College. It helped me build something meaningful from almost nothing.”

Today he leads the company while continuing to serve as a preacher. It has grown into a family legacy with a bold vision. As he puts it, “We plan to make Sky Blue Branding one of the biggest printing and design companies in Africa.”

“When I look at my life and how far I have come, I see the grace of God,” he says. This gratitude shapes the business as well. Sky Blue Branding practices social responsibility by gifting churches with signs as a way of blessing others. The business has expanded rapidly and now serves government related institutions, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and schools across Zimbabwe.

Through all of this, Tawanda continues preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ while providing for his family through the work of his hands. His story reflects the holistic empowerment that African Christian College seeks to offer.

He has been successfully equipped for both ministry and practical life, and his journey continues to inspire others across the continent.
