Shaping Future Leaders: Kennedy’s Ministry in Zambia

As an evangelist, Kennedy Mwaangwa (2008 alumnus) was deeply troubled by what he witnessed. Young people who had been nurtured in church often lost their way soon after completing high school. The shift into independence proved overwhelming, and many quietly walked away from their faith.

Rather than accept the trend, he chose to respond with purpose.

“We nurture young people in church and disciple them until they finish high school,” he explains. “But when they move on to tertiary education, many leave and never return to the faith.”

This reality revealed a clear gap that demanded intentional action. Kennedy discovered an organisation that shared his burden and vision: Christian Leadership Development.

Christian Leadership Development exists to equip individuals to lead with Christ-centered character, grounded in servant leadership, integrity, and spiritual maturity. For Kennedy, this partnership provided the structure and support needed to address the challenge he carried in his heart.

Driven by a deep passion to see young people thrive in both faith and leadership, Kennedy joined the initiative. The program engages around forty young people from across Zambia, preparing them as they step into tertiary education or other life paths.

Over the course of a year, participants are grounded in a Christian worldview and equipped with the tools they need to navigate life. They are prepared to face challenges and encouraged to remain rooted in their faith when they are on their own.

What makes it worthwhile is seeing these young people go to university, hold each other accountable in their faith, and return still committed to Christlikeness.

The results are both powerful and inspiring.

“What makes it worthwhile is seeing these young people go to university, hold each other accountable in their faith, and return still committed to Christlikeness,” Kennedy shares.

The impact extends far beyond individual lives. These young people are future leaders. When their lives are shaped by the Holy Spirit, their decisions, influence, and leadership reflect the values of the gospel.

While the challenge facing Africa’s youth is significant, every life transformed carries the power to shape the future. Through his work with Christian Leadership Development, Kennedy is addressing a critical gap and raising a generation equipped to lead with faith, purpose, and integrity.
