Meet Sisekelo Sihlongonyane: Agricultural Programmes Coordinator

African Christian College is delighted to welcome Sisekelo Simo Sihlongonyane as our Agricultural Programmes Coordinator. His arrival marks an exciting step forward in our commitment to advancing sustainable and innovative approaches to agriculture that empower our students with skills within and beyond the classroom.

Sisekelo brings a strong academic and professional background shaped by both excellence and practical experience. His passion for agriculture began at a young age. As early as grade 6, he was already exploring how waste materials could be used to grow quality crops. What began as curiosity developed into a lifelong commitment to sustainable farming.

Raised in Eswatini, he completed his early education locally before pursuing further studies in South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Crop and Horticulture and an Honours degree in Horticulture from the University of KwaZulu Natal. He later completed a Master’s degree in Crop Science. His academic journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding agriculture in ways that are both scientific and applicable to real world challenges.

After completing his studies, Sisekelo ventured into small scale commercial farming in Durban, where he supplied fresh vegetables to vendors and restaurants using conservation agriculture methods. After two years in business, he made the intentional decision to return home to Eswatini, driven by a desire to invest his knowledge and skills into his community. There, he accessed support through the Youth Revolving Fund and implemented smart farming methods such as drip irrigation to produce both baby vegetables and conventional crops. His dedication earned him the opportunity to serve as a contracted farmer with the National Marketing Board, supplying produce to retailers across the country and beyond.

Over the years, he has worked with organic methods such as using chicken manure and has explored innovative systems like hydroponics that utilize nutrients derived from waste. His work reflects a desire to produce safe, high quality food while caring for the environment.

The spirit of innovation and creativity at African Christian College drew me to join the college

Sisekelo Sihlongonyane, Agriculture Programmes Coordinator.

Sisekelo joins African Christian College as we continue to strengthen our focus on transformational leadership and practical learning. He was drawn to the College’s mission of equipping students to become resourceful leaders grounded in Christian principles. His interest in our Tuition Assurance Work Study model and his passion for innovation make him a valuable addition to our Locavore Market business.

Naturally curious, Sisekelo has an interest in technology and its role in improving farming efficiency. He is passionate about exploring solutions that enhance productivity while maintaining environmental responsibility. His journey, shaped by both success and challenges, reflects a mindset of growth and resilience. He believes that even in failure there is opportunity, holding to the idea that every fruit that fails from a tree can produce a forest that feeds a nation.
