We recently caught up with Tionge Chiputa, a 2020 graduate of African Christian College from Malawi, and here’s what he shared with us about life after ACC.
It still feels like yesterday when the world stood still because of the Covid pandemic. At that time, I was completing my three year Bachelor of Theology in Counselling at African Christian College. Walking out of campus and into a world full of uncertainty was not easy. I was anxious but also confident because of the transformation I had received, not just in class but through my entire college experience.
Tionge Chiputa, 2020 Graduate.
What made the difference for me? I graduated with more than just a degree. I left with practical skills and work experience that opened new doors.

As a student, I worked with the Locavore Market, gaining hands-on skills in gardening, poultry, piggery, and fish farming. Those experiences became my stepping stone. I was able to find my first job at Sani Farms in Eswatini, working in compost production, all because of what I learned outside the classroom.

Eventually, I returned to Malawi where I quickly noticed an opportunity in my community. No one was selling eggs. Using the skills I had gained at African Christian College, I started a small poultry project with simple and cost effective methods. It was slow at first, but soon my business began to grow. At the same time, I volunteered as a counsellor at a nearby school, continuing to live out my ministry passion while supporting my family through my poultry business.
Looking ahead, I see great potential in expanding my farming business. I am preparing to add broilers and rabbits to my egg project because there is a strong and consistent demand for meat in my community. This addition will not only increase my income but also create opportunities for me to employ and mentor young people who are interested in agribusiness.
I am still on the journey, and I am proud that I can take care of my family and serve others through counselling. I am grateful that I did not just get a certificate . . . I was empowered with real skills, confidence, and the mindset to create opportunities instead of waiting for them.
Tionge’s story is testament that African Christian College is more than a place to study. It is a place to be transformed, equipped, and empowered to thrive wherever God leads you.

Tionge is Equipped.
You can become a transformational leader, too.
