Already Rewiring My Life: Nteboheng’s Journey of Renewal

After only three months on campus, we asked our first year students to reflect on their experience. Nteboheng is from Lesotho and she talks about the renewal she has experienced while working and studying.

For a long time, I’ve talked about rewiring my brain to change old patterns and install new ones, like updating a computer’s operating system. But no matter how hard I tried, I could not do it. I wanted transformation, but I did not know how to get there.

Then I came to African Christian College.

I thought I was coming to get a degree. But I stepped into a place that is completely renewing my mind, transforming how I see myself, and grounding me more deeply in my walk with God.

The transformation here is both intentional and holistic. African Christian College is not just an academic institution; it is an environment designed to shape the whole person. Everything here – work, class, and our community life – has a purpose.

I work in the macadamia nut orchard. At first glance, working in the orchard might seem like just a task, something physical to fill the day. But over time, I began to notice how that quiet place is doing something deeper in me. There is a strange stillness in the orchard, a kind of silence that feels alive. Even as I work, nature has its way of softening me. That space began to shape me, not just physically but spiritually. Just like the trees – whose growth we do not always see until they bear nuts – something was quietly changing in me too.

The orchard became a place of quiet reformation. I stopped repeating old patterns. And it keeps me too busy to dwell on negative things.

In the classroom, the courses are structured to help us discover who we are, not only in terms of personality or strengths, but also who we are in relation to God. This academic program is not about pouring information into us; it is about awakening what God has already placed within us. It is a journey of self-awareness, spiritual maturity, and discovering how to live out our faith for the sake of others.

Beyond the orchard and the classroom, the real heartbeat of African Christian College is the community.

We live together, we eat together, and we grow together. We gather regularly for discipleship groups, fellowship dinners, and storytelling sessions where we share our life experiences, favorite songs, and Bible verses. There is something beautiful about being known by name and being surrounded by people who care for you, support you, and challenge you to grow.

What is even more amazing is that during conversations I learnt more about other countries and their rich histories. We have students and staff members from Eswatini, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and the USA. And I’ve gotten to share about my vibrant country, where the mountains meet the sky, the kingdom in the sky, the hidden treasure: Lesotho.

I’ve learned that spiritual formation is not a one-time event. It is a daily journey of being reformed in the image of Jesus. My thoughts, my habits, my purpose – everything!! – is being reshaped through this experience.

Just like in the orchard, growth in this place can be slow and often unnoticeable. When you are out there, surrounded by quiet trees and the rhythm of nature, it is not about what you are doing, it is about what is being done in you. That space reforms you without saying a word. The soil, the stillness, the routine, they all teach patience, humility, and inner strength.

Life at African Christian College forms you in layers. Classes shape your thinking, the community shapes your heart, and the Spirit works quietly in the background. You may not always see what is changing, but like the trees in the orchards, there will be fruit one day. And you will realize: “Oh wow! I have grown.”

African Christian College is not just preparing me for a career. It is preparing me for life.
