We reached out to James Akuwa, a 2019 graduate, to reflect on the impact of his education at African Christian College. Here’s what he had to say:
Education is more than just a pathway to a job. It is a powerful weapon capable of transforming lives and communities.
My own journey since graduating from African Christian College in November 2018 exemplifies this truth. As a minister and leader within the Lutheran Church of Uganda, I have dedicated myself to serving others and fostering positive change in my community.
As Regional Dean overseeing numerous congregations across Uganda and as a trustee on the national executive board, I am able to influence spiritual growth and leadership within our churches. As co-founder and Executive Director of Collaborate 4 Development, I work tirelessly to support underprivileged children through education, spiritual counselling, social development initiatives, and essential healthcare services.
One of my proudest achievements is founding Mt Olivet Care View School in Balawoli Kamuli, a school dedicated to rural development and transformation. Education remains at the core of our mission, empowering the next generation to uplift their communities. My own academic journey at African Christian College was transformative, equipping me with a bachelor of theology degree majoring in organisational leadership. I have furthered my studies, earning an honours degree in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Christian University, followed by a Master of Arts in Leadership and Innovation for Ministries from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota in May 2023.
In addition to my professional endeavours, I prioritise my family’s well-being and sustainability. My family and I engage in farming and sustainable businesses, including poultry farming, tree planting, and cocoa growing – all of which I learnt as a student at African Christian College while paying my way through college. As the head of a family of five,, I find fulfilment in nurturing our land and providing for my loved ones.
With a background in organisational leadership and innovation, I am committed to servant leadership and believe in fostering positive change within Christian communities. I am passionate about teaching, training, and motivating younger generations to realise their potential and pursue their dreams.
I am deeply grateful to African Christian College for preparing me for these significant responsibilities and pray that God continues to guide the institution to equip more leaders for excellent service in God’s Kingdom. Education truly is a powerful weapon for change, and together, we can create a brighter future for humanity.
