My Transformation began at Orientation: New Student Poloko

Growing up in a Christian-oriented family, I often felt my faith was average, shaped more by routine than by genuine connection. However, my journey took a profound turn when I arrived at African Christian College and encountered a vibrant Christian community that redefined what it meant to live a Christ-like life—not just as a Sunday behavior, but as a daily lifestyle.

On campus, I witness a unique sense of love, acceptance, and mutual care among the community members. They aren’t merely going through the motions; they are embodying their faith in ways that resonated deeply in everyday life. This experience stirred something within me, igniting a desire for a more authentic relationship with God.

This began from the moment we arrived for Orientation. As new students, we had an unexpected initiation ceremony into the community as disciples of King Jesus. In a moment reminiscent of biblical times – and with great humility, the Academic Dean knelt before me, ready to wash my feet in a basin of warm water. Tears of confusion and amazement streamed down my face as my heart overflowed with gratitude for being part of such a remarkable community.

Poloko Mohapi, New Student

As we transitioned from fellowship to a new chapter in our academic journey, the community created a pathway illuminated by candlelight. Walking through this corridor of light gave me a profound sense of God’s glory shining upon me. The atmosphere was charged with a palpable sense of God’s presence. For the first time, I felt a deep personal connection with God in a communal setting, which helped clarify many of the doubts and confusions I had harbored about Christianity.

My time at African Christian College is transforming my understanding of faith from a mere obligation to a vibrant lifestyle rooted in love and service. The Orientation experience opened my eyes to the beauty of community and the power of living a faith that is active and engaged. It helped me start my academic journey not just as a student but as a disciple, eager to embody the lessons that I was about to be exposed to. This encounter redefined my faith, and I am forever grateful for the communal connections made and the spiritual awakening that occurred within the first week of my arrival at the college.
