Excitement is the best word to describe my first days at African Christian College. I was past the nervousness and fear, so I just thought of the degree I would be getting after the three years of learning (but mostly, I thought of the money I would make once I got it). I was fresh from high school, and I had my life planned out (most of my plans had nothing to do with God or His plans for me). But being an African Christian College student changed my perspective of life, others, and myself.
I lost hope when COVID struck in 2020, and I had to do my classes online. It was not easy, but I was blessed to be called back in 2023 to finish my degree. This past year was the most educational year of my life. Our first class was Entrepreneurship, one of my highlights at African Christian College. Before this class, I used to tell people I was not the business type. Since class, business is something I dream of as a source of income while I do my calling of counseling. I now have both plans A and B written down for my makeup business, which I have started working on but will tackle after graduation.
Before college, I was terrified of public speaking – it was not just healthy nervousness, but my voice would shake, and I would sweat. As my name kept appearing on the schedule to lead singing on Sunday or lead lessons for chapel, I overcame the fear of public speaking and can now face anyone without feeling awkward. I also developed skills in writing, internet research, and as a library assistant. I discovered ways of staying connected to God and not separating parts of my life from God.
Being in a community of diverse cultures is challenging, but it also teaches you to respect other people for who they are. I loved worshipping together in different languages; this is what I will miss most. I gained friends I cherish. We might have quarreled over our differences, but our belief in God always unites us. From them, I learned it will always be God, other people, and me.
African Christian College gives every student equal opportunity to learn, practice what they learn, and teach it. If I were to come back again, I would take every opportunity to practice public speaking and explain my views on the Bible.
Anyone who gets to be a part of African Christian College is blessed. You join a culturally diverse family. You find things and talents you didn’t know you had! You find your passions and learn skills to help them grow. I advise anyone considering African Christian College to enroll.
