One of the things I treasure most in life are retreats — those precious moments when we can step away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and turn our focus inward.
Before the end of our first trimester at African Christian College, we were blessed with an incredible opportunity to embark on a retreat to Milwane, a breathtaking nature sanctuary nestled in the heart of Eswatini. It was a chance to pause, reflect, and reconnect with ourselves and our faith amidst nature’s beauty.
As we settled into the serene surroundings, one heartfelt experience stood out: the practice of solitude. This was a spiritual discipline I had often overlooked, never really considering its significance. During our time together, we were gently reminded of the importance of sitting still and knowing God.
Solitude isn’t merely about silence; it is about creating a sacred space where God could truly speak into our lives.
Before I embraced this practice, my prayer time often felt like a one-sided conversation. I would pour out my thoughts and concerns, then rush off to the next task, never allowing space for a response. But during the retreat, guided by our facilitators, I learned to linger in those moments of stillness. It was a revelation.
As I began to practice solitude, I noticed a remarkable transformation.
I learned to pause, reflect, and genuinely listen for God’s voice. In those quiet moments, I discovered a profound sense of peace and direction that had eluded me in the chaos of daily life.
In the few months since, I can already see the incredible impact solitude has had on my life. It has deepened my relationship with God, allowing me to grow spiritually in ways I never imagined possible.
I am especially grateful for the unique opportunity to be a student at African Christian College, where I am equipped with the tools and experiences necessary for this journey. The retreat not only helped me develop a more intimate connection with God but also fostered a sense of community among my fellow students and faculty.
As I left Mlilwane, I carried with me not just the beauty of the landscape but also a renewed commitment to prioritize solitude in my life. I am excited to continue this practice, knowing it will lead me deeper into my relationship with God and help me navigate the complexities of life with a clearer heart and mind.
Each retreat, each moment of stillness, reminds me that in the quiet, we can truly hear God.
