I Am Grateful – Agnes Maurana

Looking back from the time I came to African Christian College, my perspective has changed in a lot of ways. I have grown as a human being, as a mother, and as a servant of God. To begin with, I was not sure about how to balance my studies and family responsibilities. I am a mother of a 4 year old boy, and that had its own challenges. However, I thank God because even though it seemed like an impossible thing for me to juggle the two tasks, I was able to do it. My views about life and challenges have changed because God intervened in all rough patches of my life. God is alive I am a testimony of his favour.

The classes I attended were very enlightening and beneficial. I hope and aim to put into practice every skill which I learned in class so that many people will benefit. We are blessed to be a blessing to others, and I want to be just that to people. As a counselling major, I am eager to go and work different people and help them with issues that need a counsellor so that their lives can be better. I know that there are many people who need counsellors, and I want to be there to give the help they need. Also, the computer skills I have learned over the years will help me be able to teach others as well. In this day and age, everyone needs to learn how to use a computer.

The worship services that have been part of my daily life greatly equipped me. In the songs which we sang I could feel that I was brought closer to God. I have learnt that it is better to serve God than to be pleased with worldly things. There was one challenging thing I encountered, though, and I am glad that I triumphed. When I was given the opportunity to preach to my fellow students, especially when I was doing the first year, it was very difficult for me to stand in front of them and speak in English. However, I can now preach in English without panic I had before. As they say, perfect practice makes perfect, that is the one thing that I learned which helped me gain the necessary confidence to speak before my fellow students. These services made me feel better whenever we are praising God with other students from different cultures.

I am grateful for the opportunity to study and grow in my Christian walk.
