My name is Taurai Mirimi, from Zimbabwe. I graduated from African Christian College in 2017. I was majoring in ministry because I felt that is where my calling was, to work full time in God’s kingdom. I was inspired to become a preacher, which explains why I’m currently serving as a voluntary assistant preacher at Mufakose Church of Christ in Harare, Zimbabwe. At times I do visit my rural congregation and spend some time with them, exploring the word of God.
I would like to say that the task is challenging. Being an African Christian College graduate, some of our churches which are conservatives find it difficult to accept us because of the experience they have had before with our fellow colleagues. So in a way, they feel threatened and think that we are all the same. But since my brother is also a full-time preacher, he had my back always and protected me from critics and rejection.
But having said all that, I believe that God is behind my success and that he has his own ways of opening avenues and opportunities if he needs to get his work done. He is a God of his word, and no one can go against his will. I am grateful that he intervened when I needed him the most; he opened for me a way to further my academics when I had lost hope.
I have been able to endure and handle opposition without fighting or causing divisions. As an ambassador of Christ, I found challenges as a strength. I’ve managed to pull out positivity in the midst of negativity by just focusing on who I want to please, God and whom I was called to be. So focus and perseverance are keys to success because there is no way we can escape challenges no matter where we are coming from. The only way to go is to face with boldness, not to avoid them.
As I am writing my story right now, I feel more than happy and I would like to call myself blessed. Being part of the Master’s program was like a golden opportunity for me and it’s worth celebrating because it’s a special turning point for me. I applied because knowing God is my desire and it’s all I am living for. It is also my desire to become effective in God’s ministry and with more knowledge that I am going to acquire, it is going to help me and others grow. I saw the need for me to continue being equipped for God’s glory.
I want to end by saying that, a good teacher does not cease to learn; it is in the process of learning that we get enriched with new ideas. So I believe by studying for Masters in Divinity, my understanding of the WORD will never be the same.
