“I am Now Exceptionally Eqipped” – Zitsile Kunene

Fully equipped and ready to help the brokenhearted and hopeless, Zitsile Kunene, a 2019 graduating student, shared with us how she was affected by the fear of the unknown having enrolled at the College. “How is it going to be like to live with people from different cultures? Is my family going to have a hospitable stay in this community? Am I really going to be adequately equipped with the counseling skills that I want?” Three years later, she is proud of deciding not to choose the security of the familiar that had failed her. 

From the day she set foot on campus, everything seemed to be difficult, and the expectations appeared to be beyond her previous experiences. She said, “I was shocked when I learned that I have to song lead, preach, and present ideas or concepts in front of everyone.” Even though she grew up in a Christian home, she had never been exposed to such activities. The burning desire to acquire Christian-based counseling skills kept her going. 

Now, having spent the last two and a half years with the African Christian College family, Zitsile cannot even begin to imagine how she is going to cope without seeing the ACC family. Everything that was her fear is now her strength, from leading praise and worship to preaching, she is just amazed by the divine transformation that exists in this institution. “I am naturally not good with singing, but I now feel better leading worship service” She said.

Advancing to the academic experience, she said that indeed it is not good to judge a book by its cover, as she expressed how blown away she has been by the pedagogy of the school. “I love it because it prepares us not just for our majors, but for every path that God can lead us to. Whether ministry, business, or employment, we are now exceptionally equipped” she said.  In addition, she expressed her appreciation for the quality of lectures and the way they attend to each student’s intellectual needs. “African Christian College is indeed blessed”

In the list of the things that she thinks she will miss the most was the ACC family, chapel fellowship, multi-culture interactions, dishes from different countries, and assignments pressures. “Graduating and leaving will affect me and my family in many ways because this place is now huge part of my life. And we have all had an awesome experience, even though at some point they were minor cultural glitches,  but all were conquered by the love of God.

“I would love to encourage my fellow Africans across the continent to grab this opportunity that God has given to them, and also to thank the African Christian College leadership for such an initiative” she concluded with a smile.
