My name is Miriam Zimbizi, an African Christian College graduating student of 2019, with a bachelor of Theology degree, majoring in Counselling. As much as I am very happy to be graduating, my academic journey has not been a walk in the park. I just want to thank God and the entire African Christian College family for changing my life.
Coming to African Christian College was never my idea—the calling was for my husband, Muziwababa Sithole. I have to admit that at some point in time I was against it because of our children who were still very young. Due to the divine conviction that possessed him I agreed, and we successfully embarked on the Journey to Eswatini.
When we arrived on campus, doubts still clouded my mind. However,I met a very loving family here at African Christian College I have ever seen, and my perception changed altogether. I saw that God is at work not just in my life but at the college and was glad to be part of it. Every day that I spent from there onwards was miraculous, all the challenges that I anticipated before were well taken care of by the opportunities that the college is offering like the work-study program, and the offer to transport our children to and from school.
I was greatly challenged academically, but our caring and considerate lectures made it possible for me to go through the entire three years without feeling like giving up. From my colleagues I learned that education is not about competition, but collaboration to help each other. Now I really feel like an important tool which is well carved for trustworthy service of the Kingdom of Heaven. The practicum that we did as per our course requirement made me realize how important counseling is in the church, and I can safely say that I am ready to be the agent of change in my community and Africa at large.
As we leave African Christian College to head back to our home in Zimbabwe, we are full of mixed feelings. In as much as we cannot wait to get home, we still feel like staying here for some time. We will definitely miss this place because it has grown to be part of our daily lives; the chapel, community, our local church, fellow students from different countries, sporting activities, the list is just endless. Our lives will never be the same without African Christian College. However, we trust God to keep us in constant connection with everyone.
