I Am Thankful – Lucy Ajambo

My name is Lucy Ajambo from Uganda. I come from a small multicultural island of mainly Swahili speaking people on Lake Victoria. The people’s way of life revolves around fishing and agriculture since the island is blessed with fertile soils and adequate rainfall. Life on that island is simple in its purest form unlike in other places around Uganda because of the fact that its economy relies a lot on the natural world. Coming from such a humble background, I feel so honoured for having been a part of African Christian College mostly due to four major reasons.

I have acquired more knowledge about God’s word through my scholarship. Though I’m still learning more about God’s word, my studying at African Christian College has equipped me with a better way of interpreting the scripture. I now understand that the Bible had its original audience, and that the culture of those people may be completely different from our contemporary environment. The most important thing is that their life offered many life lessons to us.

The life at the college has taught me how to be a self-reliant woman. To pay my fees, most of the times I had to work in the tree of life project (macadamia), the college garden, and as a research assistant. I believe this experience of hard work I have acquired here has made me develop a rhino skin, accompanied with knowledge that will enable me to earn a living when I get back home.

I am so thankful to the administration especially to President Brad for his burning desire of including women in chapel services—morning, Wednesdays and Sundays.  I’m grateful of this because it fulfils the college’s motto, “We exist to equip women and men for excellent service in God’s Kingdom”. It is my belief that I have been trained in each and every way to serve in the kingdom.

I am also grateful for the loving African Christian College community; the love I have seen at this college cannot be fathomed. Firstly, there are men and women working tirelessly behind the scenes (supporters and donors) to see that the education of African students is reached. They have sacrificed their resources and time to make the school a better place for transformation. The lecturers are not only qualified but also encouraging and patient to ensure the success of all students. The administration staff members are ready to assist students in any way possible. I’m going to pass on the knowledge that I have gained from African Christian College as a student to the people of my community.
