Counting It All Joy – Modestar Mekeresi

I am excited that the moment that I have been waiting for in three years has finally come. At the same time, I am not very enthusiastic about leaving because I have mixed feelings. This is due to the fact that my time here has been nothing but a blessing, which took the whole of my first year to discover that. I met people I can call my friends and lecturers I can look to as my parents, teachers, role models and potters of my life. There is no way it can be easy to say goodbye, but I guess we are all here so that we can go not to stay. The only way we can fulfil our mission as servants in God’s kingdom is by going out to the field.

The journey wasn’t easy at the beginning because I was surrounded by a completely different environment which I had to adjust to. I consider my time at African Christian College as an adventure of one who was sent out on a journey of discovery because when I came I had no purpose or even understood why I was here. According to my plans, I was supposed to be studying a different program altogether. Now I understand that “a person plans their ways but the Lord directs their steps.”

I am not ashamed to admit that it was my parents decided that I should come to African Christian College, not me. As I reflect now, I can boldly say that it wasn’t a mistake. In our youth years, we need guidance from people who care about our future because we are not always right in our own eyes. I vividly remember that I even came here frowning, but the entire experience marked a huge turning point of my life.

So my message to others is that it is not too late to make a decision; come to African Christian College and witness God’s mighty works in and through his people. I appreciate the quality work my lecturers are doing. To those coming after us, keep up and fix your eyes on the goal.
