The journey of life is not measured by years but it is measured by the decisions we have made throughout life. We all want to make it in life, however, what determines our success is the sacrifices we have made in life. My name is Nyasha Ashley Rukweza, a young beautiful woman who has lived all my life in Zimbabwe’s biggest city, Harare – the city that never sleeps. The City had once drowned me into finding pleasure in worldly things but because of God’s love, he managed to pull me out.
As a young city woman I had to decide to leave the comfort of my home and country because of my ambitions to be equipped to serve God through helping others. Just as God loved the world that he gave his one and only son, I decided to offer my life as a sacrifice to God for the people.
I was born from a Christian family, and that cultivated in me the passion to help people. Thus, while I was working as a nurse aid at Chitungwiza Hospital in Zimbabwe, attending to the sick people each and every day, I discovered that they also needed spiritual help which I was not fully equipped to offer. Looking after sick people who were on the verge of dying, struggling with family issues, disappointments, lack of hope and any other form of depression developed in me a different view of what it means to follow Jesus as God’s child.
Therefore, because of the passion I have for helping those who are physically and emotionally distressed I came to African Christian College to study theology, with a major in Counseling. I chose ACC because it is the best place for one to be prepared for work in God’s kingdom. Being here gives me the double advantage of being equipped to provide spiritual help, efficiently and effectively, to those that are emotionally stressed, whilst also glorifying God. I am sure that the time I will spend here will be worth the sacrifice I made.
