“I Want to be a Credible Leader” – Simon Maanda

I am Maanda Simon from Jinja Uganda, East Africa. I studied at Harding Christian Academy in Nawangoma Budondo Jinja Uganda. Being a member of Nawangoma church of Christ congregation and studying at Harding Christian Academy placed me in the presence of two teachers who passed through African Christian College, Oguttu Geoffrey and Ojiambo Duncan. Their impact at school and in church left me inspired, and I finally decided to go to the college that prepared them to be such great and competent leaders.

In addition, the scarcity of good leaders in Busoga churches of Christ that I grew up noticing is another reason I decided ACC was the right place for my preparation for leadership in the church.  In light of these reasons, my major will be Organisation Leadership which will enable me to fill the leadership vacuum, especially in my area of residence in order to make the future brighter for everyone.

I have set my eyes and determination in being an exemplary leader in the community. The knowledge I will acquire at ACC will help me establish a solid base so that I can make a positive impact in other people’s lives. As a leader, I will work hard to up lift my financial status in order to be able to help pull out those in such difficulties. I also hope to motivate the youth by forming youth groups through organizing competitions, such as soccer, athletics, and others. This will be a way of keeping the youth away from inappropriate behaviour.

Furthermore, I aim to form youth projects, purposed at teaching youth how to work and earn a living. Lastly, I want to be sociable in my leadership, such that I am approachable and used by anybody to change his or her life. When I look at this vision, I am very much convinced that I am at the right place. If I work hard enough, I will be able to bring the change I dream of.

Way to go Simon and blessings as you pursue your dream to serve in the leadership capacity. Yes, we have the skill, but lack one big-one; responsible, unselfish and visionary leadership. We need more like you to fill up the vacuum. It the reason I got involved with Harding Christian Academy in Uganda after all along with our friend Dr. Clifton Ganus Jr. of Harding University. You’re a dream unfolding!
