Over 500 attended worship with the Campus Church of Christ on Sunday, 15 June 2014.
For several months, the leaders and members of the congregation invited other churches, coordinated plans, and prepared to have guests from throughout Swaziland for the morning worship assembly. Since ACC had visiting preachers coming from the USA on campus, the congregation decided it would be a great time to host its first combined service.
A worship team of ACC students and Swaziland preachers from Manzini, Mliba, and Zombodze led the worship. These included a favourite Swazi singer Brother Sipho Matisa. The local preacher from Bethany lead the Lord’s Supper.
Dr. Jerry Taylor, associate professor of Bible, Missions, and Ministry at Abilene Christian University (Abilene, Texas), spoke on the chosen theme, “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!” Dr. Taylor was visiting Swaziland to as a lecturer for students at ACC.
About once a quarter, a congregation in Swaziland hosts a “combined service” inviting the other Church of Christ congregations to join them on a Sunday morning. The highest number in attendance in the past has been around 300.
The Campus Church of Christ meets on the ACC campus every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. The church has independent leadership chosen by the members. It meets in the evenings to encourage members to attend and work with other congregations in the mornings. The congregation was established in January 2013.
