This post is part of a series of posts from our graduating third year students. Today’s post is from Oliver Kazembe from Malawi. On 29 November 2014, he graduated with his Bachelor of Theology degree from African Christian College with a major in Counselling.
My experience while here at African Christian college was tough in the beginning, but very nice in the end.
Life was not easy in our first year because we were learning new things being in a different culture. Everything was new to us. And after classes we were told to be doing the kind of work that was also new to us.
Living together with people from eight different countries was not easy. We later discovered that all cultures are unique. But one reason that made life to be tough for us was acceptance. We didn’t accept the environment where we are, the kind of life we are to cope with. This was because of our expectation was not matching with the present but later in the second year we accepted.
When we accepted the present situation, life became easier and we became flexible. We developed relationships within and that made life to be different. Many people that we built friendship with went back to their country after graduating. Others remained with us and are now more than family. I hope in years to come we will be visiting each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Coming to ACC has helped us to relate well with people from different nations.
African Christian College is the best place where I have learnt a lot: how to manage my own family; how to help each other within the campus as family; learning new ideas from different classes that we participated. And I am really very happy with many subjects which have helped in my spiritual growth.
I have grown spiritually, mentally, physically, psychologically, and socially. Being a student who is majoring in Counselling, the counselling subjects equipped me with good skills and qualities that no one can take away from me.
I am committed to continue working with people within my area with integrity and honesty. Thanks to ACC faculty for being so good to us from the beginning till this day that we are about to graduate. My God bless the global ACC family.
