After two years of planning, construction, and final details, we opened the doors to our new library this afternoon with a great celebration. A worship service, ribbon cutting, and dinner was held on campus with students and staff as well as campus visitors including the Regional Education Officer (REO) for the Manzini Region.
In her address to the African Christian College community, REO Shongwe said, “We are very glad to have this institution in Swaziland as it prepares to help people with their spiritual lives. The spiritual needs of our communities are great. We need people who will read the Bible, study other books, and prepare before they speak before the people.”
She encouraged the students to “use the library as much as you can” and affirmed the Ministry of Education’s gratitude for ACC’s compliance in reporting with the ministry and the excellence evident on our campus and with the new library.
The afternoon began with a worship service led by members of the ACC community, Ms. Shongwe’s address, a ribbon cutting ceremony at the library with Ms. Shongwe and ACC Librarian Misozi Mhango, followed by a meal. It was the Ministry’s first official visit to our campus, and Ms. Shongwe also participated in a full campus tour.
We are grateful to the many donors, supporters and friends who made possible the construction and opening of the new library — especially Tom Wolfe and team from Phoenix, Arizona, USA; Misozi Mhango, our librarian; Jim & Jenene Marnach who oversaw much of the completion of the library; and the many, many people and organizations who donated goods and books to make it possible.
